Albrighton-born Claudia Grinnell delighted a full audience in St Mary Magdalene Church at a superb organ recital on 11 July with a dazzling performance of works by J S Bach, Couperin, Mendelssohn and Widor.
The event, orgainsed by The Arts Society Wrekin's Nicky Lipscombe, came some 3 years after Claudia's previous recital, at Bridgnorth, when Claudia had already gained an organ scholarship at Salisbury Cathedral. Previously, while at Wolverhampton Girls High School, she was Organ Scholar at St Peter's Collegiate Church where she received four years' organ lessons with Dr David Rendell (also at the recital) sponsored by Wrekin, before going on to study organ at Cambridge University. Gaining her FRCO in 2017 Claudia is now assistant organist at Winchester Cathedral and teaches organ at Downe House School in Berkshire.
Proceeds from event ticket sales included a donation of £700 towards the new learning centre at St Mary's, while the raffle's takings and sales of preserves, amounting to £220, were given to the Albrighton Trust to assist with ongoing training for disadvantaged 19 - 25-year-olds at The Moat.
