The Arts Society Wrekin has sponsored awards to three students on the Graphic Design course at Coventry University. The Patricia Fay Memorial Fund provided half of the £500 sponsorship in recognition of Coventry’s successful bid to be the City of Culture 2021.
Receiving the awards were Antonia Hind, a student from the Wrekin area who played a significant part in organising the degree show, Mihai Toma, a standout student who exemplified the highest professional standards in his approach to work, and Vienna Smith, a proactive and energetic student unafraid to challenge herself with untested ideas and skills to best solve creative problems. Phil Perry, the Course Director, and Rob Hubbleday, Chairman of the Coventry 2021 Working Party for The Arts Society, presented the awards at the end of May. The degree show followed soon after the successful 'taster' event at Coventry Cathedral to raise the profile of The Arts Society. Many students attended this event and it is hoped that a link with the University will be maintained when Coventry form their own society.
A further grant of £250 from the Patricia Fay Fund was handed to the Art and Design Department to enable the degree show to transfer to London. The students’ work will be showcased at the New Designers exhibition in Islington in July.
